Commercial truck and adult learner reviewing the Texas commercial vehicle driver handbook
Pilot Begins August 11, 2026

Limited-space Class A CLP knowledge-test preparation.

Enrollment interest is open now. The pilot begins August 11, 2026. Space is limited, and submitting the interest form does not guarantee a seat.

The planned pilot uses the official Texas Commercial Motor Vehicle Driver Handbook and organizes the material in the order participants commonly encounter the required knowledge areas for a Class A permit.

Four preparation units

Unit 1 — Texas Commercial Rules

State-specific commercial driving requirements and rules from the applicable Texas handbook material.

Unit 2 — General Knowledge

Safe driving, inspections, vehicle control, emergencies, cargo, and other general commercial-driver knowledge.

Unit 3 — Combination Vehicles

Coupling, uncoupling, preventing rollovers, trailer control, and inspecting combination vehicles.

Unit 4 — Air Brakes

Air-brake components, inspections, warning systems, stopping, and safe operating practices.

What the pilot is intended to provide

  • Instructor-led review of key handbook concepts
  • Study guides, practice questions, and quizzes
  • Support creating a Texas DPS application and testing checklist
  • Test-readiness review and study accountability
  • Referrals to authorized ELDT and behind-the-wheel providers after the permit stage
Program scope: This is a knowledge-test preparation program. ECMI does not issue a CLP or CDL, administer Texas DPS examinations, provide behind-the-wheel instruction, or replace federally required Entry-Level Driver Training when ELDT applies.
Current Texas note: Texas DPS states that, effective June 1, 2026, CDL knowledge examinations are administered in English. Applicants should review the latest DPS instructions before testing.
